Florida State College at Jacksonville Communication Shortcuts Discussions
I’m working on a management discussion question and need a sample draft to help me understand better.
Discussion 1: Leadership
Have you ever been in a leadership role?
- If yes, briefly relate your experience and what you learned about yourself. What characteristics do you think made you a good leader?
- If no, give an example of a leader you have personally known. This could be a teacher, pastor or organizational leader of a club that you are a member of. Which characteristics make you believe they are a leader.
Discussion 2: Communication Shortcuts
Identify and define the meaning of 10 common communication shortcuts you use in text messaging or e-mails. Explain how the use of these methods of communication could give way to miscommunication and why? Give several examples.
Discussion 3: Evaluations
Describe a scenario in which you were evaluated or had to evaluate someone. It doesn’t have to be a job evaluation but it can be a survey you completed after interaction with someone (after dining out) or perhaps when you had the opportunity to complete a course survey for a class.
Respond to several of the questions below. You don’t have to answer all of them. They are included to provoke a thought process. Answer the ones you can relate to based on your life experience.
- Do you think that all evaluations and surveys are useful?
- When do you think an evaluation would not be necessary?
- Was there ever a time when you didn’t complete a survey?
- After learning about the usefulness of measuring performance and the importance of evaluations do you think you will take more opportunities to evaluate and offer feedback?
