UCI Theories of Social Change & the Attainment of Independence Discussion
- 1) Reflect on the lessons you have learned from our guest speakers on the frontlines of social change during these three weeks. On each guest lecture: What is her/his/their theory of change (ToC)? Discuss the ToC as you perceive it from her/his/their talk and from the strategies underpinning her/his/their work for justice.
- 2) Reflect on radical praxis you have observed in these three weeks in all course content that concretize actions and movement toward social change. Think about documentaries (including ‘Agarrando Pueblo’), lectures and readings and describe your reactions to all content. Think about the role of subversion … of activism … of occupying uncommon ground together …of radical pedagogies … in catalyzing movements for social change.
- 3) What is your ToC? Integrate this reflection with all assigned readings.
- 4) What are the dangers of both participation and action for social justice? Integrate this
reflection with all assigned readings, be sure to engage and cite at least 3 required readings, 1 documentary, 1 community conversation
