Both Professor Mincyte and I talked about why Karl Marx believed that religion was the “opiate of the masses.” Why an opiate? What did he mean by that, and what do you think about the role that religion plays in a society where there is sharp class conflict and severe exploitation of workers??
Question 2.
Fascist movements went on the rise in Europe in the 1920s and 1930s. Why do you think fascist politics appealed to so many citizens in these nations? Is there something kind of grossly seductive to people about hyper-militarism, machismo and all the rest? And why did fascists hate Communists so much?
