1. Identify the historical events that facilitated the development of the ethical codes and regulations for research.
Throughout the history of medicine even today the issue of ethics still arises and the importance of maintaining certain norms in research. The research process is cumbersome and can take several years to complete because of the various steps that must be taken to ensure that the researcher does not falsify information, fabricate, or misinterpret the information in order to complete the study. Several incidents have occurred in health care because of this to include the Tuskegee Experiment or the recent discussion on immunizations and autism.
Examine a case of ethical misconduct and discuss the impact on the generation of scientific knowledge. Discuss the actions that need to be taken in the literature after an episode of ethical misconduct. (Ex. Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment, Nazi Doctors (Nuremberg Code created), Porton Down, William Sumerlin (Fabrication of research), Dick van Zelen (Misappropriation of human organs), Andrew Wakefield Autism and immunizations, etc). these are a few that you may choose to research when discussing ethics in research.
