First Aid Kit: Photo Essay Assignment
A photo essay consists of a collection of photos and text/narrative, to explain the content of the photos. You will make a first aid kit, organize it, and then take pictures of it, and include those pictures in a PPT. You should not submit images of a pre-made/ pre-bought first aid kit, or stock images.

1. Read Chapter 9, especially “Emergency Care versus First Aid” of the course textbook.
2. Include the following items in the assignment:
adhesive tape (1/2 inch and 1 inch widths)
antibacterial soap or cleanser
bandages of assorted sizes
space blanket (Mylar)
bulb syringe
thermometer
flashlight and extra batteries
sterile gauze pads (2×2 and 2×4)
instant cold packs or plastic bags for ice cubes
sewing needle
roller gauze (inch and 2 inch widths)
disposable gloves
pen and small notepad
saline eye wash solution
safety pins
blunt tipped scissors
liquid soap
spirits of ammonia
SAM rolled splints (small size)
cotton balls
sealable plastic bags
tongue blades

triangular bandages for slings

3. Create a Power Point presentation (only an “Office Power Point” file can be uploaded for this assignment- No other format will be accepted). You can download free Microsoft Office Here on your computer. (Links to an external site.)
a. Slide 1: Your full name, Title, course/ Semester
b. Slide 2: Include a list of the items you will include in a first aid kit.
c. Slide 3: Include a picture of the container you will store your first aid kit into.
d. Slide 4 and on: Take a picture of each item and label the item. Followed by a slide explaining why you chose to include the specific items in the kit.
e. Last Slide: Provide a summary of what you learned and how the creation of this kit will help you work with children and families in a safe manner.
