First, read Chapter 2 in your text as well as the articles Assessing the Sociology of Sport: On Cultural Sensibilities and the Great Sport Myth and Transformational and Transactional Leadership. Also, review the requirements for your final project as outlined in the Final Project Guidelines and Rubric document.
Next, thinking about an issue you may want to address in your final project, address the following in a two- to three-paragraph journal assignment:
- What are three recent examples of moral, ethical, or legal dilemmas you find in sport currently? What do you feel are the underlying issues of these dilemmas?
- What sociological, management, and leadership theories might you use to address these issues? How might you employ them?
Cite from the text reading and the articles, and refer to the Final Project Guidelines and Rubric document to support your responses.

Discussion 1-2 Post:
First, read Chapter 2 of your text (review Figure 2.1 in particular) as well as the required sections in the Handbook of Sports Studies and the article Assessing the Sociology of Sport: On Cultural Sensibilities and the Great Sport Myth.
Next, identify a current moral, ethical, or legal dilemma in sport that has gone viral through social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) Research and identify two social media sources to help explain why you believe the current issue is important to the sport industry. Post your dilemma and your two sources to the discussion topic and in your initial post address the following:
- Does this social media source present a current ethical, moral, or legal dilemma in sport today?
- How effective is this source in discussing the dilemma?
- How do you believe this issue relates to the ethics of sport and the interrelationship among all three of the areas (sport, society, and ethics)?
In responding to your peers, be sure to address whether or not you agree with their identification of their topic as a dilemma as well as their assessment of the social media source they chose to use.
