Supplements and Safety by Anahad O Connor Article Questions
1. What is the main point or points that the author of the article is making?
2. Briefly outline and evaluate how the author supports this point.
For example, does the author refer to specific scientific studies? If so did he or she cite the study or:
a. Refer to the name of the scientific journal in which it was published?
b. Explain who or what the study subjects were and what the size of the study group was?
c. Provide enough information so you could tell if the study was a case study, epidemiological study, intervention study, or laboratory study? (Use the explanation provided on pages 14 and 15 of the textbook and in the module to understand the different types of research design.)
If the author does not refer to specific scientific studies how does he or she support their point? Why would referring to the results of scientific studies add credibility to the article?
3. To what extent is the author either exaggerating or sensationalizing the topic vs. staying true to the science behind what he or she is reporting? Support your answer.
4. Overall, is the article credible to you? Is it valid and useful information? Would you apply the information to your own life? How and why? Explain your answers.
Here are three examples of articles that could be used for this assignment. Feel free to either use one of these articles or find one of interest to you.
