The name Harley Davidson is well known throughout the Motorcycle industry. Remaining a valued competitor, Harley Davidson knew that several internal changes within the organization were needed, as a result of declining sales. Dyer et al. (2018) supported the need for organizational changes due to the environmental climate caused by the economic recession in 2008. Sales and profits were directly impacted by the poor economy. All contributing factors included poor product design that was less than appealing and emerging competitors. Facing with deciding how to retain a competitive advantage, Harley David found it critical to use a better management strategy that would provide the most value. A SWOT analysis was determined to be the most effective management tool to provide the most positive outcomes to resolve the challenges.

A SWOT is a strategic planning tool. It provides an analysis in four distinct areas focusing on organizational strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Each area helps organizations to determine if improvement or modifications are needed. Harley Davison’s discover a lack in product appeal and performance. Honda was gaining a competitive edge. The overall success of the SWOT analysis further assisted in the reorganization, reinventing, and reforming of companies facing periodic market trends.
Continuous monitoring and timely evolution of organization processes are necessary for continuous growth. The profitability of its branding process increased sales in the United States but has slowed gained leverage among its international customers.
