Week 1

I am originally from Pakistan and completed my undergrad there in Film and TV Production. I moved to the US in 2016 for my Masters. I have a master’s degree in Broadcasting and Electronic Media Communication from San Francisco State University.

I work on the business side of the Entertainment industry and when I started working I realized to excel in my career, I should have a business degree and got enrolled in Westcliff. I have taken a few business classes. My current course is finance focused and it is a bit challenging for me. The course is helping me understand the financial matters of the studio I am working at.

Week 2

I plan on working on some of my soft skills and some technical skills. I believe good communication is key to success so I will be working on it and try to be more efficient. I also want to improve my interpersonal skills.

I want to learn more software such as SAP and other accounting software. I would also work to improve my MS Excel proficiency.

Week 3

Week 4

I interviewed one of the executives at my company. My goal was to understand his career journey and the struggles he had to face. We also discussed how he got his first job and any advice and suggestions he might have for those starting their career in the entertainment industry. We also talked about his management style and lastly what is the future of the entertainment industry.

My overall experience was so amazing. He was so humble and open to share about his experience. Which I really appreciate.

1. The reasons why change initiatives fail

2. The biggest mistake that change-makers make is thinking communication is the same as engagement. The impact is threefold. First, the transformation expected, second being the wasting of the resources (time, people, and money), and thirdly, being left with diminished morale.

3. Culture is important for the change of management programs. Culture aspect is important for the change and its impact. Managers should focus on cultural strength.

4. Need to create a coherent environment. There should be more than one entity engaged. Upper management needs to understand and implement the change program.
