Speech Evaluation Assignment

For the purposes of this assignment you will evaluate a public speech.

*You may NOT use the speech from your discussion board post!

Your first responsibility is to find a speech that is longer than 10 minutes. The speech can be from any genera, and on any topic. There must be a video of the speech available for me to watch and assess your evaluation. The most common places to find good speeches are TED Talks, Al Jezerra, Vital Speeches of the Day, and of course YouTube.

  • The first thing you must do is connect with the material. What resonated with you?
  • Briefly summarize what the speech was about
  • Discuss how you felt about the material
  • What did you learn?

Then you must reflect on the delivery of the speech.

  • What was the speaker’s body language like?
  • How was their engagement with the audience?
  • Did they use gestures? What was the speaker’s energy and enthusiasm level like?

Finally discuss the speaker’s conclusion.

  • Did they announce their conclusion? Did they restate key points?
  • Did you feel a sense of closure when the speaker was finished speaking?
  • Was the speech memorable and why?

For the purposes of the assignment, please make your writing clear and concise. Include as many examples from the speech as you can. The more of a personal connection you make to the material, the more points you will earn. Please make your reflection at least two pages (doubled spaced) All formal written papers WILL be typed, in a 12 point font – the only acceptable fonts are Calibri, Times New Roman, or Arial. Please set your line spacing double, and your margins at 1 inch all around. You must also include a works cited page at the end of your assignment with the video properly cited. You must have a title page at the beginning with; the title of the assignment, your name, the title of the class, the section number, the date and your instructors name centered on the page. Please make sure your paper is in APA format.
