The era of Reconstruction in the American South was a pivotal period for African-Americans. On the one hand, the period witnessed important advancements for the rights of blacks in the South. On the other hand, there were also definite efforts to repress African-Americans during this period. For the forum, respond to the following question: Was the era of Reconstruction primarily a period of advancement or repression for blacks in the South?
