After reading each excerpt below, answer items 1-3. Once you have answers for the three excerpts, then answer items a-l.
- Determine whether the excerpt is representative of a discussion occurring between female-female, male-female, or male-male friends,
- Indicate the sex of person A and person B in the excerpt,
- Articulate why you believe your perception is accurate. Indicate what specific stereotypes you relied upon to come to your decision. Identify specific words that led you to determine the sex of persons A and B and highlight any topics which let you to these conclusions.

Person B: You sleeping?
Person A: No. I was watching Casablanca.
Person B: Channel please.
Person A: Eleven.
Person B: Thank you, got it. Now you’re telling me you will be happier with Casablanca actor/actress A than Casablanca actor/actress B?
Person A: When did I say that?
Person B: When we drove to New York?
Persona A: I never said that. I would never have said that.
Person B: Alright, fine. Have it your way. (Pause) Have you been sleeping?
Person A: Why?
Person B: Because I haven’t been sleeping. I really miss (name of ex). (Pause). Maybe I’m coming down with something. Last night, I was up at 4 in the morning watching Leave It to Beaver in Spanish. Buenos, dias, Se?or Cleaver. ¿Donde esta Wallace y Theodore? I’m not well.
Person A: Well, I went to bed at 7:30 last night. I haven’t done that since the third grade.
Person B: That’s the good thing about depression. You get your rest.
Person A: I’m not depressed.
Person B: Oh, okay. Fine.
