UCOR 3400 Seattle University The Adventures of Ibn Battuta Discussion Paper

Historic trade routes (e.g. the silk roads), pilgrimage routes (e.g. the Hajj routes), and military campaigns facilitated the intermingling and exchange of goods, ideas, and peoples. Drawing from the accounts of the Travels of Ibn Battuta, explain how cultural exchange, the legitimatization of new rulers, and the movement of peoples promoted certain beliefs that are now utilized as arguments for the preservation of UNESCO heritage sites. You may want to select one to three scenes from the Travels and then cross reference with material found in the Global History of Architecture and the UNESCO World Heritage website.

Paper should be three to four pages double-spaced, with one-inch margins, in Times New Roman or similar 12pt font. You are expected to use Chicago style footnotes: http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html. You will be graded on how effectively you state your thesis, back up your arguments with specific examples that are properly cited following the Chicago style guidelines for footnotes.
