PCB 4023 Cell Staining Question
- Write down the question being addressed by the experiment (1.5 points).
3.) Create a summary of the overall approach you use to answer the question being addressed.Do not confuse this section with a material and methods section (1.5 points)
4.) Account for the one by one steps of the method that was used. The easiest way to do that is by writing “see protocol listed in _______” citing an online resource, specific pages from a lab manual, or a published research paper. Also, be sure to note whether anything you did deviated from that standard protocol by including comments like “We followed the protocol as described except for step 2 where we did _______ instead,” etc. Also, be sure to record any technical errors that occur while doing the procedures, as this saves a lot of confusion later (0.5 points).
5.) Accurately record and show all results yielded by the experiment(raw data)as the data become available. Based on the raw results obtained (as a class), prepare an informative graph or table; you may choose one or the other (or both) depending on the experiment and depending which is the most efficient way to deliver the information. If you get pictures on the microscope, print them out and tape them into the notebook (or if you cannot, try to briefly sketch what you saw)(1.0 point). Write down a paragraph or two describing the results that you obtained (as a class).Make sure NOT to include any discussion, just plain straight results and also to write down notes about anything unusual you see(1.0 point).
6.) After you have analyzed the data, write 1-3 sentences that summarize your interpretation and explanation of the findings. Note that this interpretation section is the experiment and not about what you have learned or your experience in the lab; it is not about troubleshooting the experiment either, it is about looking for a scientific explanation for the results obtained (1.5 points).
7.) Last, include a statement about possible future scientific directions using as a base your findings from the experiment. This is not a section to name the mistakes you did in the experiment; but rather to suggest a future experiment/s using as a base the knowledge obtained in the experiment in the lab. Make sure you are specific about proposing the future experiment (1.5 points).
8.) Write here the answers to the questions included at the end of each manual (1 point)
1.Describe the staining pattern obtained foractin for each of the two cell types tested. Were they the same? Explain.
2.What types of cell staining did you use today in the lab? Assign each of the 3 stains used with atype of staining methodology.
3.What type of immunostaining did you use today?Explain your answer.
4.Name one advantageof using an indirect immunostaininginstead of a directone.
