When looking into AA that need to pivot, I investigated companies that are stable in their current strategies and leadership, as well as those who have an overall negative reputation. When doing preliminary research, it was also important that the organization had various public statements from their public relations team. Without this, we would not be able to form an accurate opinion on what changes should be made going forward. Based on this information, I chose to study American Airlines for my project.

Fairhurst’s book will play a significant role in our strategies for pivoting American Airlines. From current understanding, it seems that American Airlines is very reactionary in their communication. They seem to respond factually to negative situations without framing them. I also hope to explore how American can better leverage social media for their benefit. Social media is the catalyst of almost all recent controversies for American.In deciding on American Airlines for my project, I noticed that because of COVID and other factors the airline industry as a whole has had a hectic year, and decided to research both individually and together to see how American Airlines in particular needed to pivot. After choosing American Airlines last week I went into more detail about the company this week and did research about their policies and mission. I have worked together to come up with ways that they could change to better their product for customers and collaborated to see how they have changed over time. I also looked into how they have responded to technological advancements and the timeline of the company as a whole. It is interesting to see how they have adapted to the times and if these adaptations have had positive or negative impacts.

Going forward we will be doing some more research to how their current state can be improved to better meet the needs of the airline industry, consumers, employees, and the shipping industry. There are aspects of the company that can be enhanced as an outcome of recent events on their planes where disputes have broken out. I will be coming up with ideas and discussing our thoughts on this subject as well as how they can become more efficient as a whole – which includes their environmental impact, employee benefits, customer service, and other features that make up the company.

In your opinion– and in your own words– what is empathy? (Another way to think of this is– What are we doing when we are empathizing with someone OR What are the components of empathy OR What is the process?) Explore what needs to be taking place when we attempt to empathize with someone.

Why is it difficult for so many of us to empathize?

The cases in the class are important because they challenge students to have a somewhat in-depth look at a situation and apply what they have learned. You will be able to see how strategy can be applied to a situation and start to formulate your own thoughts about what the best alternatives are. Working on the cases will help you meet LO1: Understand the relationship between strategy and organizational performance, LO2: Understand and apply an important strategy concept (such as strategy process, internal and external environment, competitive and corporate strategy, corporate governance and controls) AND LO3: Critically discuss current business events.

The question that is in need of a response is as follows: “Title IX is over 50 years old and should or should not be changed for the following reasons.” 

I prefer an answer in favor that Title IX does indeed need to be improved for the sake of protecting non-revenue men’s sports, etc.
