I’m studying and need help with a Health & Medical question to help me learn.

Describe patient enablement and why it is important. Explain how physicians can interact with the patient to engender enablement. Give examples of the different factors that lead to patient enablement.

The Project Waiver Form is entitled, “Task 1 Template”. This is where you can ignore the checkboxes and the like. 

PICO(T) is an acronym that helps researchers and practitioners define aspects of a potential study or investigation.

It stands for:

• P – Patient/population/problem.
• I – Intervention.
• C – Comparison (of potential interventions, typically).
• O – Outcome(s).
• T – Time frame (if time frame is relevant).

The end goal of applying PICO(T) is to develop a question that can help guide the search for evidence (Boswell & Cannon, 2015). From this perspective, a PICO(T) question can be a valuable starting point for nurses who are starting to apply an evidence-based model or EBPs. By taking the time to precisely define the areas in which the nurse will be looking for evidence, searches become more efficient and effective. Essentially, by precisely defining the types of evidence within specific areas, the nurse will be more likely to discover relevant and useful evidence during their search.As a baccalaureate-prepared nurse, you will be responsible for locating and identifying credible and scholarly resources to incorporate the best available evidence for the purposes of enhancing clinical reasoning and judgement skills. When reliable and relevant evidence-based findings are utilized, patients, health care systems, and nursing practice outcomes are positively impacted.

PICO(T) is a framework that can help you structure your definition of the issue ( COPD) , potential approach that you are going to use, and your predictions related to the issue. Word choice is important in the PICO(T) process because different word choices for similar concepts will lead you toward different existing evidence and research studies that would help inform the development of your initial question. Are smokers, with a long history of smoking, at higher risk of developing Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease than non-smokers? ( this is the question from where the PICOT needs to be developed from)

Your initial goal is to define the population, intervention, comparison, and outcome. In some cases, a time frame is relevant and you should include that as well, when writing a question you can research related to your issue of interest. After you define your question, research it, and organize your initial findings, select the two sources of evidence that seem the most relevant to your question and analyze them in more depth. Specifically, interpret each source’s specific findings and best practices related to your issues, as well explain how the evidence would help you plan and make decisions related to your question.

If you need some structure to organize your initial thoughts and research, the PICOT Question and Research Template document (accessible from the “Create PICO(T) Questions” page in the Capella library’s Evidence Based Practice guide) might be helpful.

In your submission, make sure you address the following grading criteria:

• Define a practice issue to be explored via a PICO(T) approach.
• Identify sources of evidence that could be potentially effective in answering a PICO(T) question.
• Explain the findings from articles or other sources of evidence.
• Explain the relevance of the findings from chosen sources of evidence to making decision related to a PICO(T) question.
• Communicate using writing that is clear, logical, and professional with correct grammar and spelling using the current APA style.

Nurses and Burnout

According to the Texas Department of Health and the Texas Center for nursing workforce studies, a hospital nurse staffing survey was conducted during the summer of 2019. Like many other states, Texas is facing a large vacancy of nursing and nursing turnover. Of the 106,915 RN, full-time positions reported statewide there is over 6734 were vacant. The survey in 2019 of 170 hospitals that responded $46 million was spent on interim staffing methods to fill 13 million hours of staffing needs. (Texas Department of State Health Services, Nursing Workforce Data Section, n.d.). Although Texas is projected to face a shortage of nurses from 2015 through 2030, this demand will grow by over 53%. When reflecting on the hospital that I currently work at, there are many nursing vacancies, and they have been filled by contract labor. The high demand for nursing jobs in these extreme work conditions has led to turnover rates when addressing the overall stress. In addition, burnout and being overly worked during the stressful times of the pandemic have made for complicated emotional and physical distress on employees. Burnout is causing nurses of all specialties to accept better-paying jobs in this increasingly competitive market. (Harper, 2021).

The steps that need to be taken to counteract this type of nursing shortage or any healthcare professional shortage are retention strategies. For example, we can look at education forgiveness programs and sign-on bonuses, and better benefits packages. In addition, to retain nurses, you can make more flexible working schedules and make sure that there is a home life work-life balance for the employees. Finally, make sure that nurses know that there is an opportunity for advancement within the company. (Suarez, 2017). Texas is no different from any other state; they face the same shortages within healthcare and need to make changes to address these issues to ensure the quality of care given to their patients.

I’m working on a nursing discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

You will choose one of the levels of Maslow’s hierarchy, and complete the following:

?Come up with one example of a patient that is in the hospital or long-term care facility, and describe which level is their predominant need. Make this a case study, with a patient name, physical or mental health situation, and some details.

Final Paper: Each student will select and research a specific topic of interest that highlights a healthcare risk management/patient safety issue. Acting as in-house risk managers or external risk management consultants, you will provide recommendations to a health care organization regarding its risk management practices and patient safety operations. Smoking is a leading cause of death around the World and there are rising rates of smoking associated cancer and disease. The purpose of this post will be to discuss the culture of Poland as it relates to smoking, while reviewing nursing biases when it comes to patient care. Poland saw an increase of smoking after communism came to an end in the country where much of the Polish population was uneducated on the dramatic negative effects smoking can have on a person’s health (Curbing tobacco use in poland, nd).

Social and political factors played a large part in Poland’s cigarette consumption such as the privatization of the tobacco industry when communism was a thing of the past and democracy took a front seat in the country. The Polish, mainly uninformed of the dangers of smoking tobacco, saw millions of dollars put towards tobacco advertising.

Cuevas et al. (2017) found that there were disparities and biased against Latino and African-American patients in healthcare. Latino patients in this study explained that they felt their treatment would be better if language barriers were a consideration with language interpretation provided during assessments and interventions at bedside (Cuevas et al., 2017). Within my own practice, I have to be culturally sensitive to our large Latino population here in San Antonio, and that often looks like using a translation phone or finding a coworker who is fluent in Spanish for clear communication and patient comfort. I think some populations are more difficult to communicate with due to language barriers and cultural beliefs, however that must be put aside for quality patient care. Having cultural relevance is necessary to combat bias in nursing.
