Northern Virginia Community College Literary Criticism Analysis Review

I’m working on a literature discussion question and need a sample draft to help me learn.

Literary theory (literary criticism) enables a broad appreciation of global literature. Reading a text through the lens of literary theory provides a new perspective to better understand literature, learn more about different authors’ intentions, and generally improve the quality of literature for both authors and readers.

For this week, research three different schools of literary criticism and explain what they are about. Connect your findings to the literature that we read this semester, and explain how a school of literary criticism might be used to analyze one of our texts.

texts read: Scarlett letter, Their eyes were watching God, Walden, Life of a slave girl

University of California Irvine Synergistic Integration Discussion

I’m working on a english question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

In Stoddart, Pinal, Latzke, and Canaday (2002), the authors proposed the notion of synergistic integration as a conceptual framework for science-language integration. Please write a post with about 300-400 words to discuss the following questions.

  1. What does synergistic integration mean? Can you use a metaphor to represent this concept? Please explain in your own words what the authors mean by synergistic integration and why they put forward this notion? Can you connect this concept to the study that Dr. Llosa and I conducted?
  2. In what ways is this notion connected to the other ideas of language and content integrated instruction we have covered, such as disciplinary literacy, SFL, or the language of science classrooms?
  3. What are the implications of taking up a notion of synergistic integration in teaching content to English learners (multilingual learners)? In what ways do you think the synergistic integration would enhance both content instruction and language instruction?

UTRGV Last Stop on Market Street Children Book Literary Analysis

1) Select a children’s book originally written in Spanish.  It is of the utmost importance that you are able to correctly identify the book you select.

Here are some helpful points for selecting a book that is not translated:

  • Do not be guided by the author’s name only, since the author may be called Juan Rodríguez (Hispanic), but since he was a boy he lived in the US and does not write in Spanish; or vice versa, a John Smith who moved with his family as a child to Mexico, and speaks, reads and writes in Spanish. Usually, of course, a Hispanic last name indicates that the author originally wrote the text in Spanish. But do not trust only for this.
  • On the cover or on the first page, where the title of the book and its author appear, if the text is translated, it also says: “translated by Juan Pérez”, or “Translation of …” In that case, it is obvious that it was translated .
  • Another indication is to see the back of the first page, where the information about where it was published, the ISBN, etc. appears. If the book was published for the first time (first edition) in another language, it means that it was not originally written in Spanish. For example, if the story is called  La casa magica  and in its first edition it appears as  The magic house, it  means that it was later translated into Spanish with that title.
  • Sometimes in the book itself there is information about the author, where information about the language in which he writes is provided.
  • If you have any questions, check with the teacher to determine if the book was originally written in Spanish or is a translation.
  • You can use books that are on online pages, posted on YouTube, or any electronic format. You do not need to have the physical fitness books. If you have the opportunity, you can visit your public or university library but it is not mandatory.

2) Follow the following format to the letter .

Your analysis should contain each of the parts listed below. The number of words will not be counted, but if you do not explain in detail what is being asked, especially in the sections where “Explain why” is asked, points will be lowered.

  • The analysis is divided into 3 parts (Bibliographic data, text analysis and general evaluation (personal). The answer to the bibliographic data should be short and simple. The rest of the analysis requires clear answers, do not forget to include examples and support to your answers in paragraph form.
  • Format to follow:

Bibliographic data, description and evaluation of a children’s story

BIBLIOGRAPHICAL DATA

  • First and last name of the author
  • Story title
  • Book to which it belongs (if there are other stories in the book)
  • Bibliographic citation (city, country, publisher, year, # pages)
  • Source (if owned, purchased, (where), or taken from the library (reference #)

ANALYSIS

  • Plot: Summary
  • Setting
  • Characters (main, secondary) / main: static or dynamic  (EXPLAIN WHY)
  • Style: identify 1 example of connotative language (if any, EXPLAIN WHY)
  • Realistic or fantastic tale (EXPLAIN WHY)

GENERAL EVALUATION

  • Presence of diversity, positive or negative (EXPLAIN WHY)
  • Evaluation: book recommendation (EXPLAIN WHY)

Change Agent Police Brutality Essay

Prompt:

our job for this essay will be to learn more about a person who has been a powerful agent of change for a cause you care about (in theory, the cause you wrote about in Essay 3). Once you have learned more about this person, you will work to consider how you might follow in that person’s footsteps, and become an agent of change for the same cause.

Task:

Your essay should be 800 to 1000 words in length and follow this format:

  • Introduction: Introduce the idea of social change and being a change maker, introduce the cause, and include your thesis. In your thesis, state how you will plan to become an Agent of Change for your given topic.
    • Sample Thesis: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life embodied determination and strength as he tirelessly fought for African Americans’ Civil Rights. He argued that education should result not only in knowledge gained but also character developed, and given the current educational disparities in our school system, I plan to be an agent of change for students who live in less funded areas. I will use my education and voice to bring awareness to this issue in my home, work place, and community through social media and informal discussions.
  • Body paragraph 1: Pretend your readers have not read Essay 3 and remind them in one paragraph of the social justice issue you addressed and why/how it is a problem that needs change (you can use information directly from Essay 3).
    • Sample TS for thesis above: Racial inequalities are still deeply rooted in our society and institutions.
  • Body paragraph 2: Introduce your change maker (someone who has/is fighting for change in that social issue). Explain his/her characteristics that make him/her a strong Agent of Change.
    • Sample TS for thesis above: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life embodied determination and strength as he tirelessly fought for African Americans’ Civil Rights.
  • Body paragraph 3: Detail the attributes necessary for being a change maker. Explain how you plan to embody those attributes for the cause.
    • Sample TS for thesis above: With determination and honesty, I plan to be an agent of change for students who live in less funded areas. I will use my voice in social media and casual conversation to bring awareness to this issue to those around me.
  • Conclusion: End with a declaration of how you will be an Agent of Change in your home, community, work place, and/or community.
    • Sample concluding statement for thesis above: As a social change agent, I plan to bring awareness to the issue of disparities in education. I can do this by voicing my opinion and sharing my expertise on this issue with others in my home, work place, and community through social media and informal discussions. Like Dr. King, I can use my voice and determination to bring about change and expect more from those around me.
