Walden University Legal Rights and Ethical Treatment for Inmates Discussion

When individuals are sentenced or placed in a jail, they lose various rights. The most obvious of these is the right to freedom, liberty. In most cases, inmates also lose the right to vote in national elections, the right to possess a firearm, and other rights granted to non-convicted citizens. And before the 1960s, courts refused to hear inmates’ petitions when they sued the prison system. Since that time, inmates have been afforded various rights by the courts because of the efforts of the American Civil Liberties Union and other similar organizations. These rights encompass such areas as medical care and confidentiality. However, the court often has stepped in to determine to what degree these rights are afforded to inmates. A similar debate is ongoing in the public domain. It has to do with whether inmates are entitled to legal rights and ethical treatment, a debate you weigh in on in this Discussion.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review Chapter 12 in Introduction to Forensic Psychology. Focus on the legal rights of inmates and which rights are considered most important. Also pay particular attention to the American Association for Correctional and Forensic Psychology (AACFP) standards.
  • Review the American Psychological Association’s Specialty Guidelines for Forensic Psychologists located in this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Think about which practice standards and ethical guidelines you believe are most important for inmates and/or forensic psychology professionals working in the correctional subspecialty.
  • Reflect on whether inmates should have the legal rights they are granted and whether they deserve ethical treatment as defined in the Specialty Guidelines and the AACFP standards.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 your thoughts about whether you think inmates should have the legal rights they are granted and whether they deserve ethical treatment as defined in the American Association for Correctional and Forensic Psychology (AACFP) standards and the Specialty Guidelines for Forensic Psychologists and why or why not. Justify your position referencing the legal rights and ethical standards.

Psychology Parasite Movie Psychoanalysis Question

The Case-Study Research Paper, due in Module 14, will be based on Modules 1–14. You will submit a 5- to 7-page research paper (double-spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch margins) that explores psychological disorders in one of the movies listed below. Please select and view one of these films, and discuss the main characters and plot as a psychological case study. You should discuss one or two significant characters, and determine which mental disorders discussed in the textbook, module, and DSM-5 apply to them. You will determine the diagnosis, treatment, etiology, and prognosis for the character(s) you choose to analyze. Include at least eight class-sourced references and three references from your outside research on the case study/diagnoses (a total of 11 references).

For the assignment in this module, please review your chosen film case study from the list of selections above. (Remember: you will continue to work on the same film for the rest of the course). Then discuss this case in terms of the criterion set forth in the fifth edition of the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). In this module, please focus on the symptoms only. In subsequent modules, we will work on providing prognosis information (outlook, cure, or management of symptoms) for your film case studies.

Purpose

  • To write the section of your Case-Study Research Paper focusing on the symptoms
  • To demonstrate knowledge of general psychology and become acquainted with anxiety disorders

Here’s the comment for the essay-

Great work this module diagnosing the characters in “Parasite,”! Excellent analysis of their multiple, respective diagnoses. Your breakdown of these diagnoses’ symptom sets, and how they correlate with each of their cases, is very well explained and cited. You’ve made your case clear for why you believe they should be diagnosed and the risks of their behavior. I look forward to reading more on how you plan to treat their complex case in the upcoming modules.

For future reference, I want to remind you that the “prognosis” section of your case study should describe the future of the patient with a particular diagnosis. Your prognosis may have contingencies, meaning, you may describe how depending on the patient’s access and compliance to particular therapeutic interventions, it may influence how you understand and/or predict the daily, long-term impact of this diagnosis, on a patient. I hope this helps clarify this aspect of the case study paper, please email me if you’ve any further questions.

University of North Texas Emerging Adulthood Discussion

Welcome to discussion board #7! Our content this week will be covering Chapter 7: Emerging and Early Adulthood.

Historically, early adulthood spanned from approximately 18 (the end of adolescence) until 40 to 45 (beginning of middle adulthood). More recently, developmentalists have divided this age period into two separate stages: Emerging adulthood followed by early adulthood. Although these age periods differ in their physical, cognitive, and social development, overall the age period from 18 to 45 is a time of peak physical capabilities and the emergence of more mature cognitive development, financial independence, and intimate relationships.

Answer & respond to the following prompt(s) below:

  1. On page 246 & 247, Emerging Adulthood is defined as the “age of identity exploration”, the “age of instability”, the “age of self-focus”, and the “age of possibilities”. Of these, which one do you sense currently defines your personal experience of emerging adulthood? If you are beyond emerging adulthood, which one defined your season of emerging adulthood? Look table 7.4 on page 275; which of the “Big Five Personality Traits” best fits your personality currently?
  2. On page 283 it says, “Being single is the most common lifestyle for people in their early 20s, and there has been an increase in the number of adults staying single. In 1960, only about 1 in 10 adults age 25 or older had never been married, in 2012 that had risen to 1 in 5 (Wang & Parker, 2014).” Table 7.6 on page 283 lists reasons for staying single. Can you think of any reasons that you have observed in yourself and in your peers as to why more adults are staying single? Is this a good thing for our culture? A bad thing? Why or why not?

As always, I look forward to reading your responses! You will need to make an initial post (at least 500 words) to the assigned prompt.

Walden University Teachers Opinions on Inclusive Education Article Annotation

This week, you will submit the annotation of a qualitative research article on a topic of your interest. Narrative, ethnographic, grounded theory, case study, and phenomenology are examples of types of research designs or approaches used in qualitative research.

An annotation consists of three separate paragraphs that cover three respective components: summary, analysis, and application. These three components convey the relevance and value of the source. As such, an annotation demonstrates your critical thinking about, and authority on, the source topic. This week’s annotation is a precursor to the annotated bibliography assignment due in Week 10.

An annotated bibliography is a document containing selected sources accompanied by a respective annotation of each source. In preparation for your own future research, an annotated bibliography provides a background for understanding a portion of the existing literature on a particular topic. It is also a useful first step in gathering sources in preparation for writing a subsequent literature review as part of a dissertation.

Please review the assignment instructions below and click on the underlined words for information about how to craft each component of an annotation.

Please use the document “Annotated Bibliography Template with Example” for additional guidance.

It is recommended that you use the grading rubric as a self-evaluation tool before submitting your assignment.

    By Day 7

    • Use the Walden library database to search for a qualitative research article from a peer-reviewed journal on a topic of your interest.
    • Before you read the full article and begin your annotation, locate the methodology section in the article to be sure that the article describes a qualitative study. Confirm that one of the types of qualitative research designs or approaches, such as narrative, ethnographic, grounded theory, case study, or phenomenology, was used in the study.
    • Annotate one qualitative research article from a peer-reviewed journal on a topic of your interest.

FIU Relationships Psychology with My Girlfriend Discussion

I’m working on a psychology discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

For this chapter, I want you to focus on a significant person in your life that is NOT a member of your immediate family (no siblings or parents/grandparents). This can be a best friend, a spouse, a boyfriend or girlfriend, or a coworker. I want you to analyze your relationship using some of the concepts we covered in this chapter and answer the following questions. 1). How did you meet (and was proximity involved at all)? 2). Do you feel you are similar to this person, or do you think you are in that “opposites attract” arrangement (this is possible for pure friendships, too!). 3). What is the driving force behind your affiliation – is it biological, individual, or situational, and why (that is, describe that force)? Finally (but optionally!), if it is a love oriented relationship, which level do you think you are at (passionate, companionate, or consummate)? For your follow-up comment, use some of what you learn in this chapter to compare and contrast your own relationship with the relationship of another group member. Do you think they have a better strategy than you do for maintaining their relationship, or do you think you are the one who stumbled into the perfect relationship or friendship?
