You are responsible for selecting a corporation of your choice and doing research to locate a published article discussing the corporation in reference to a legal, ethical or political issue from the material in the course. This may involve allegations, convictions, etc., or even good behavior about the corporation as outlined in the article.

I’m working on a criminal justice discussion question and need support to help me learn.

One common forensic finding with a gunshot victim is primer residue. One method is to collect swabbings of both hands of gunshot victims with a gunshot residue (GSR) kit and request the crime laboratory to analyze the swabbings for primer residue. Assume that you are crime scene investigator and have submitted a sample of both hands of a gunshot victim to the crime lab, and the results returned are negative.

What conclusions can you draw if the death event appeared to be a suicide? A homicide? An accident? Explain your findings.

Enclosed is a narrative providing a set of facts relating to a company and individuals associated
with that company, as well as a limited number of fact exhibits, which represent the full universe
of documents and evidence that were introduced at trial. You may assume that any facts or
materials referenced in the narrative but not attached as exhibits were discussed orally at trial.
You are either a prosecutor or a defense attorney in the trial of United States v. Annie Daniels
and Eva Ralph, who have been charged with violations of four federal criminal laws: (1)
violations of the anti-bribery provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act; (2) obstruction of
justice in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1512; (3) making false statements in violation of 18 U.S.C. §
1001; and (4) securities fraud in violation of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Rule
10b-5 (also at 17 C.F.R. 240.10b-5). Each of the four crimes was charged against at least one,
and possibly both, of the two defendants. It is up to you to determine based on the enclosed facts
which of these four crimes the government has charged with respect to each defendant, and then
to argue the elements of each violation charged. Neither defendant has been charged with any
crimes outside of the four identified here.
We have assigned each of you to either the role of a prosecutor or a defense attorney, as you will
see in the attached assignment chart. Your assignment—consistent with your role—for the final
exam is to draft a paper, between 5-10 pages (double-spaced, size 12 font, with 1-inch margins),
making a closing argument about why your side (prosecution or defense) should win on these
charges. For those of you assigned to be prosecutors, you should argue that the evidence proves
beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendants are guilty of each of the crimes charged against
them. For those of you assigned to be defense attorneys, you should argue that the government
has failed to meet its burden to prove all the elements of each crime.
In addition to writing the paper, each of you will have an opportunity to provide a 2-minute oral
presentation of an excerpt of your closing statement to the “judges and jury” (i.e., to Professors
Leiken and Bell and to the other students during a Zoom session). Your presentation of an
excerpt from your closing argument should address at least one of the crimes identified above,
but does not need to address all four of the crimes and does not need to include every point
covered in your written paper. Rather, you should condense your selected portion of your
closing argument to no more than 2 minutes of speaking to make your points. Formal citations
are not required in the paper or the oral presentation, but when discussing the law you should, in
some manner, reference the statutes or cases to which you are referring.
Your paper will be graded on how well you analyze the elements of each offense, the substance
and persuasiveness of your arguments, and the structure of your arguments. Your final grade
will be based on your paper, as well as your class attendance, participation, and your oral
presentation of one of the issues from your closing argument paper.

you will assume the role of a social science researcher in charge of developing a new crime prevention program targeted toward juveniles in the K–12 school system. Review current crime prevention programs that target juveniles and adults. There are several crime prevention programs that are designed for adults and which are also in K–12 schools nationwide with a standardized curriculum (i.e., Neighborhood Watch, D.A.R.E. and G.R.E.A.T.) with many more programs created at the local level (i.e., Citizens Academy, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and YMCA afterschool programs are unique to the community).

Identify three programs currently being utilized in communities and in the K–12 school system, national, state, or local programs. Compare and contrast the programs in terms of goals and objectives, target population (e.g., who is receiving and participating in the program), and how and by whom the programs are delivered (i.e., taught by law enforcement officers, school counselors, individuals outside of the school system, etc.). Based on these comparisons, explain which elements you would place in your program and how your program will be delivered to the students.

Create a 13- to 15-slide PowerPoint® presentation (excluding the cover slide and reference slide). When conducting your research and composing your presentation, do so in a manner which will allow you the opportunity to reuse it.

In your presentation, incorporate speaker notes to include the following:

• Identify three crime prevention programs currently being utilized in communities and found in the K–12 school system, either national, state or local programs.
• Tell about each program, explaining its goals, target population (i.e., adults, elementary school kids, 5th graders only, kids in each grade level, etc.), and how/where it is delivered.
• List and explain the pros and cons of each program.
• Compare each program to the others.
• Discuss the differences in methods used in the programs between youth and adults.
• Tell how successful you believe each program has been and justify your opinions.
• Explain which elements of each program you would include in your program and why you feel they are important.

Remember that editorials are typically opinion pieces; supporting your opinions with data adds to your credibility. So, be sure your opinions are supported by evidence. Assume that Complex World is a leading source of interdisciplinary information for leaders in all fields and careers.

Write a short editorial as a forward thinker to address the following: 

Disasters are indeed “all hands on deck” occurrences that are typically long-lasting. How would you advise other leaders in your discipline to prepare for future disaster situations? What other stakeholder groups and/or disciplines should be at the table? 

Be sure to explicitly state if certain groups have been historically left out of important decision-making.

1. What key race-based policies and practices have influenced the treatment of children and led to disparities? 2. The Michael Slager case is an extreme example of misconduct that resulted in an officer being arrested and charged with a crime. More often, issues are handled within the department at the administrative level with the offender being officially reprimanded or perhaps terminated.

ASSIGNMENT

For this assignment, focus on the gas leak scenario in M2.2. – Scenario attached is labeled “gas leak”

You are the captain that oversees PO Watson and have been tasked with investigating her actions during the suspected gas leak. As part of the investigation, you must identify the parties involved that should be interviewed to get all necessary information about the incident in order to write a report.

There are two parts to the assignment that will be written in a paper. First, you will identify key individuals and write interview questions for them. Then, you will write a report related to the incident.

Keep in mind that most police departments are quite small and the possibility of civil damages related to misconduct could cripple the department. Investigations and resulting actions are critical to maintain strict compliance with departmental policies and procedures.

Part A

In preparation for your investigation, you should include the following:

• Identify the individuals that will be part of your investigation, state why they were identified, and give a brief description of what you expect to learn from them.
• Write interview questions for each and why you have included those questions.
  • Create 5-7 interview questions for each individual related to the who, what, when, where, why, and perhaps how of the incident.

Part B

Assume that during your investigation, you determined that PO Watson acted inappropriately and that she violated Mr. Sanford’s constitutional rights. As a result, there is a need for PO Watson to be formally reprimanded.

Write a misconduct report based on the facts of the incident and what you learned in your interviews for PO Watson concerning her actions during the suspected gas leak. Focus on the following in your report:

• The facts of the incident.
• Ways in which she violated Mr. Sanford’s constitutional rights.
• Your method to reprimand her.
• A plan to avoid a similar event in the future.
