FriedRich Nietzsche
1.What does the Madman mean when he says, “We have killed him—you and I. All of us are his murderers. But how did we do this? How could we drink up the sea? Who gave us the sponge to wipe away the entire horizon? What were we doing when we unchained this earth from its sun? Whither is it moving now? Whither are we moving? Away from all suns? Are we not plunging continually?” How have “we” killed him? And, what does he mean by describing this act as akin to drinking up the sea, wiping away the entire horizon, or unchaining the earth from its sun?

4. Explain in your own words why Nietzsche thinks most people (or the masses) need weak morality and are not capable of strong morality? Use an example (personal, from modern day society or history) to illustrate. Do you agree that most people need weak morality?
5.Explain in your own words why Nietzsche sees Christianity as life denying and why this makes Christianity too hard to follow or unappealing.
6.Explain in your own words why Nietzsche sees Christianity as being too rigid and intolerant and that this makes people reject Christianity, as a response. (Use an example to illustrate.)
7.Bearing in mind, that Nietzsche’s critique of Christianity was written in 1882, what do you think of his critique? Even if you are Christian, do you think there is some value or insight in his critique, especially considering how much has changed within the last century?
