Grossmont and Cuyamaca College Introduce Yourself Discussion

Introduce Yourself!
We are going to be spending the next 6 weeks together and I strongly encourage you to begin to get to know each other. We all learn best in a social environment, and students who discuss ideas and work together will always be the most successful.
Your Assignment
The way each of us expresses our unique brand of creativity can depend a lot on areas where our intelligence is the strongest. When we think of “intelligence,” we usually think of only one type of intelligence, or “intellectual” intelligence. However, cognitive psychologist Howard Gardner thinks there are actually multiple types of intelligence.
In this Discussion assignment, you will explore Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences, then select the one that best represents your unique type of intelligence. You will then use this as a basis to introduce yourself to the class. Your post must be between 300-400 words.
You must post in the Discussion before you can read your classmates’ posts.
In addition, I will use this assignment to determine who is present and active in ART 100 and who is not. As such, you need to post by the end of the first week of the term, which begins on June 28, but don’t worry, this is an easy one.
Posting Images
Some of you may want to post images. This is not required, but it can be fun. If so, check out this link for a how-to:
How do I embed an image in a discussion reply as a student? (Links to an external site.)
Step One: Learn About Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences
Watch the Video
Please watch the following video. As you watch, try to understand the different types of intelligences explained in the video and think about how they apply in your life. Write down the kinds of creative activities or occupations where they would be especially useful.

Step Two: Post in the Class Discussion
Your post is worth 30 possible points
Part 1
Start with your name and your major, if you have one, and write a sentence or two about who you are and where you’re going.
Then state the reason you’re taking ART 100. FYI, I already know you need the transfer units.
Part 2
Now, describe one or two skills or activities that you are especially good at, and explain how this shows off your personal brand of creativity.
Next, correctly categorize these skills or activities, based on the type of intelligence (listed above) required, and include a brief written justification for why you chose that category. In other words, what type of intelligence are you using when you practice each of these activities or skills?
Everybody has something! Don’t be modest! Think outside the box!
Don’t limit yourself to visual arts, but think of activities that show off your personal brand of creativity. By activities, I mean active, not passive or receptive pastimes such as listening to music, reading, gaming, etc. These can include sports, music, writing, public speaking, computers, math, gardening, working with animals, working with people, building things, or anything else you can think of.
Step Three: Respond to Your Classmates
Each post is worth 10 possible points (20 points total)
Next, review the posts of your classmates. Post a cogent and thoughtful response to a post by two different classmates (at least 100 words each). Be sure to use the correct reply box.
Respond to the response. If someone asks you a question or provides some other insight, please respond thoughtfully and courteously.
