Annalise Hathaway Nursing Scholarship Case Study
Sponsored by Family of Annalise Hathaway
This $2500 annual scholarship is in memory of our daughter/sister Annalise “Lisa” Hathaway who was a 2012 graduate of The University of St. Francis with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing.
Annalise, as colleagues knew her, loved her profession as a nurse. She first worked at a nursing home and then had the opportunity to work at a hospital where she blossomed. In less than two years, Annalise became a member of the leadership team, was asked to be a preceptor for nurses in training, and received her CMSRN. Nursing was her true passion. Using words we’ve heard others say to describe her, we know she was professional, attentive, and thorough with her patients. Annalise had a friendly and upbeat attitude, while being helpful and showing gentle compassion toward others. One patient who shared her experience with hospital supervisors said, Annalise “brightened my day.” Co-workers described Annalise as always being calm even amid stressful situations. When working with the most difficult patients she was willing to go out of her way even if it meant going to another part of the hospital to get something that would help them. Others described Annalise as always “able to make you smile.”
Below we have two essay questions for you. Take your time and be thoughtful in your responses. Please keep both answers to fewer than 1500 words total, and GOOD LUCK!
1. An exceptional nurse has many positive character traits. Please identify one or more and expound on why it is a necessary trait for someone in the nursing profession.
2. Describe a personal experience, past or present, when a pet or other animal taught you about compassion towards others.
